Resident Individual Requirements
In an ongoing effort to streamline the licensing process, the Division has implemented and encourages the use of its new electronic functionality. The new services are efficient, generally paper free, and can expedite the licensing process including the capability of the applicant being able to print their own license online once the license has been approved by the Division.
Four easy steps:
- Fingerprinting/Criminal History Search
- Prelicensing Education
- State Insurance Examination
- Apply for a License
Apply for a license utilizing the Division's Sircon Portal:
Resident individuals applying for a producer license must apply electronically through Sircon’s Compliance Express or through the National Insurance Producer Registry. Electronic transaction fees apply. Effective July 1, 2015 licensing fee will be reduced to $185, plus online processing fees. Applicants requiring an agency affiliation must pay an additional $50 for each affiliation. Those applicants applying through Sircon may print their license online for free for up to 30 days after the license is issued.
Applicant for Variable Annuities:
A producer applying to sell variable annuities or variable life insurance must be registered with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and the Nevada Secretary of State, Securities Division.
A producer of insurance representing an agency must be affiliated prior to selling, soliciting, or negotiating insurance on the agency’s behalf. Affiliations may be requested during an individual license application, created and later maintained online utilizing the Division’s Licensing Portal, or created by downloading DOC 327A and sending it to the Division with the applicable fees. The affiliation fee is $50 and renews triennially with the individual’s producer license.
A producer contracted with an insurer must be appointed within 15 days after the contract is executed or within 15 days of the license being issued by the Division. The date of issuance will be available on the NAIC Producer Database. The appointment must include the lines of authority under which the license is issued. The Division will accept electronic or paper appointments. The appointment fee is $15 and renews annually on July 1.
Once your license has been processed, it will appear on the Division's Nevada License Lookup Tool. License application status may also be checked on SIRCON under the link ‘Check license application status’ or on NIPR under 'Transaction Search.'
