Division of Insurance Encourages Consumers to Utilize Free Resources to Shop for Health Insurance

CARSON CITY, NV – Open Enrollment is now under way. Nevadans have choices to consider about health insurance, whether as a first time buyer or changing to a different plan. To help consumers make more informed decisions, the Division brought back NVinsurance101.com, an educational website aimed to provide Nevadans with timely information about their health insurance decisions.

“We understand choosing insurance plans may be a confusing topic. We hope that by offering consumers free resources we can provide some assistance as they shop for a health insurance plan.” said Insurance Commissioner Barbara Richardson.

This website was designed to provide Nevadans with the basics about insurance, including information on key terms, how to fit a plan to your individual or family situation, and what consumers should be thinking about when considering a health insurance plan.

Commissioner Richardson added; “We are encouraging everyone to shop for plans during Open Enrollment, regardless if they already have health insurance to see if there is a better choice for you and your family. The plans change every year and they may include a change in prices and in health provider or services.”

The presidential election result has created some uncertainty concerning the future of the Affordable Care Act.  The Division wants to reassure consumers that all Nevada health insurance plans and prices appearing on the Division website and healthcare.gov are final and will be issued January 1, 2017 as displayed.

Our Rate Wizard Tool is the “go to” source for viewing and comparing all the plans with their cost, benefits, drug / doctor access and much more.  We are pleased to announce that this tool is now available in Spanish at http://healthrates.doi.nv.gov/Wizard_sp.aspx. The rates are displayed by age, county, and are for non-smokers.

The search results are displayed and then sortable by plan name, carrier name, metal tier, and whether it is offered on or off the Exchange. This allows the search to be filtered for quick focused results.

There will be 10 insurance companies offering a total of 124 plans in the individual market on and off the Exchange. The average approved rate change off the Exchange is 10.73 percent and on Exchange is 10.43 percent.
