Division cautions Nevadans of Secure Home Warranty; an unregistered service contract provider

CARSON CITY, NV – The Division of Insurance warns Nevada consumers to avoid conducting business with Secure Home Warranty. The Division issued a Cease and Desist Order to Secure Home Warranty for conducting business without a registration in Nevada as a service contract provider.

The Division received at least 6 complaints from Nevada consumers regarding Secure Home Warranty for failure to pay submitted claims. Upon investigating the Division concluded Secure Home Warranty had provided service contracts without obtaining a proper certificate of registration.

Here are some tips when dealing with service contracts:

In Nevada a service contract provider must register with the Division pursuant to NRS 690C.150. You can verify a registration by using the Division’s “Verify a License” tool at http://doi.nv.gov/licensing-search/
It is important for consumers to read and understand the terms and conditions offered under the contract at the point of sale.
Generally manufacturers automatically provide limited warranties against workmanship or defects for a set period of time. A service contract claiming to offer 5 years of extended coverage may only be providing 4 years of coverage beyond the manufacturer’s typical 1-year warranty that comes free with a purchased product.
