General Agent/Agency for Bail

A General Agent for Bail is a qualified individual who is appointed by an insurer to supervise or manage the bail bond business.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be a 18 years or older
  • Must have an appointment by an authorized insurer as a General Agent
  • Must have a copy of the contract or agreement that authorizes the General Agent to act as a General Agent for the insurer
  • Proof of Completion of a Nevada State Bail Pre-licensing Education – 6 hours

Initial Application Required Documents: 

  • Completed Fingerprint Background Waiver. The Fingerprint Background Waiver gives the Division legal authority to review your background report. Without the background waiver, your application cannot be fully reviewed or approved. To complete the background waiver, enter “Nevada Division of Insurance” in paragraphs 1 and 9, initial and date the bottom of page 1, and enter your name, date and signature on the bottom of page 2. Leave all of the agency information blank. Here is a sample background waiver
  • Fingerprint confirmation receipt showing the Transaction Control Number (TCN)
  • Local Law Enforcement Printout / Scope Report

              * This is a letter from your county-of-residence law enforcement agency which
                 indicates you have not been convicted of a felony; offenses of moral turpitude;
                 or the unlawful use, sale or possession of a controlled substance

Bond Requirement: 

Each applicant for a General Agent for Bail license must file a $50,000 Surety License Bond, naming the People of the State of Nevada as obligee, and must also provide a Power of Attorney. These must remain in force while licensed as a General Agent for Bail. The original Bond must be mailed into the Division’s Carson City office to complete the application.

Fees:

Application fee $185

State of Nevada Appointment and Termination Form and fee $15 – Completed by Surety Company and must be mailed into the Nevada Division of Insurance’s Carson City office.

Qualifications & Fees:  General Agency for Bail

A General Agency for Bail is any qualified firm who designates each natural person to exercise the authority granted and is appointed by an insurer to supervise or manage the bail bond business.

Qualifications: 

  • Must have an appointment by an authorized insurer as a General Agent
  • Must have a copy of the contract or agreement that authorized the General Agent to act as a General Agent for the insurer.
  • Provide Articles from the Nevada Secretary of State showing registration
  • Must designate a licensed general agent for bail through Sircon as the agency’s designated responsible licensed person. This individual, or DRLP, is responsible for the business' compliance with Nevada law. The association fee is $50 for each DRLP, plus online processing fees.

Initial Application Required Documents:

  • A signed, notarized statement that the applicant understands that as a General Agent, they shall not solicit or negotiate undertakings of Bail.
  • Fiduciary Account or Remittance Statement:  Evidence that a fiduciary account has been set up for the insurer in a bank which is a member of the Federal Reserve System OR a statement signed by an officer of the business entity stating that the monies collected will be remitted to those entitled within 15 days after receipt.
  • Financial Statement:  Provide a copy of the applicant’s most recent fiscal year financial statement.  Include both a balance sheet and an operating statement.
  • Certificate of License Status (Non Nevada Residents ONLY):  The applicant must provide an original Letter of Certification from the applicant’s resident state – not older than 90 days.
